Marisa Maldonado is curious about the world, human stories, and how students learn. These passions led her to pursue dual certification in special education and social studies. Her 15-year career includes teaching stints at both public and independent schools. Marisa currently teaches social studies in the Queens neighborhood where she and her husband are raising their daughter.

Marisa received her special education training from Hunter College, where she was part of NYC Teaching Fellows Cohort 23. She served as a special education teacher in The Bronx while completing her graduate coursework. Marisa has worked with students who have become doctors and students who could not read. Her individualized approach to tutoring helps students feel satisfied with their accomplishments, curious about what else there is to learn, and capable of doing amazing things in the future. 

Marisa also understands that not families can afford private tutoring, which is why Uniquely Bright Pathways combines market-rate tutoring with community outreach. Marisa  distributes literacy resources and books throughout the community at local events. She also has written an upcoming book, to be published later in 2026, that teaches parents how to help their children become confident readers.

Outside of teaching, Marisa enjoys reading, music, crochet, and being as active as possible.
